Twittering Machines

It’s still April!  Just time enough to squeak in a final submission for the sound challenge.

My mother was for many years an advisor for the Art Department at the University of Washington.  She was (still is!) artistic and interested in art.  One of her favorite modern artists when I was growing up was the German Expressionist Paul Klee, and she passed this appreciation on to me.  We had a coffee table book of Klee’s paintings in the house, and his delightful Twittering Machine (Die Zwitscher-Maschine) was probably my favorite, since I like birds too.

We had a fine ride today through Fanno Creek Park, and we especially were charmed by a mallard and her nine newborns.  Twittering machines.

This is just a placeholder for now. I’ll add a real description when I get more time.

Those twittering machines, as my grandmother used to say, are “cute as a button.” I never quite got that expression because I have yet to see a button I thought was cute. So I’ll say the baby ducks were way cuter than a button. And way way way cuter than that evil twittering machine who used to be our president.

Funny. I never connected Twittering Machines with Twitter. I’ve always associated it with this painting from my childhood.
