Susan and I host our women’s riding group every year at this time — the Saturday before Thanksgiving. There are some vegetarians in our group so I have dubbed this get together “Unturkey Thanksgiving”. I cook vegetarian chili and corn bread and everyone else brings sides and desserts of their choice. It is a great group and a fun start to the Holiday Season.

We had 17 of us this year, and about half of them rode the route I prepared, the other half opted to join Susan on our local trail for a hike. On the way each group stopped to drop off a food item or two there they were asked to bring and there we did.

A few of us getting unloading the goods…

The ride was glorious in full sun, blue sky and upper 40 to lower 50 degrees. We had some hills on our ride and we regathered at the top of any of them to be sure not to lose anyone.

I know I have posted a photo of two of the beach area in the past, but cannot help myself from posting another one from this ride.

My plan is to have CRANKSGIVING be a part of this annual ride each year. Great idea and almost everyone did bring something to give. This is a new addition this year so I am hoping everyone will be on board next time.

We returned home for that warming chili and all the goodies that surrounded it, had some good socializing time, our annual Wii bowling tournament and a bit of football to watch the Washington Huskies win their game.

A great day!

Good day, good ride/hike, and good deed!
Looks like everyone had a great time.
Thanks for posting — the weather here has been ‘unsuitable’ 😉 — but Im working on getting it done!

Thanks Rich. Though I have known of CRANKSGIVING, you are the incentive for me to participate as much as I could this year. It will become my goal for each of our annual gatherings. And it was fun. We have been doing this ‘event’ for at least 10-12 years and EVERY year we have had some rain, sometimes lots of rain (often close to freezing rain), very cold and cloud filled sky. This was the first year for what we all thought of as glorious weather for our outing.

Having a group of women friends who love riding would be great. Looks like a fun way to socialize, get some exercise, and do some good for others. Bravo for you!
