Another box in the wall

Hi ho! Kermit the Frog, here!

I am doing a guest post as The Navigator is recuperating after another 10-hour day. We haven’t been riding much at all this month as she has been in a work frenzy after awarding a contract worth hundreds of thousands of dollars on 28 November. The record digitising contract then fell into full swing within days. She now only has a couple weeks to pack up 180 boxes of records AND enter every single record onto a register and consignment sheet as she goes.

Soooo… she’s been putting in long hours and worked last weekend and will work this weekend, too. So I take my bike to her workplace and pedal around the office to keep myself in riding shape. I thought I would share a picture of me riding by one of the walls of boxes she has littering the storeroom and old kitchen (the feature photo).

The photo at the bottom of the page shows what it looks like to ride ON TOP of a wall (of boxes). They are being stored in an old cool room in the ktichen! Sorry, but these are the best walls we’re going to get until next Tuesday or so. As you know from all of my movies, the show must go on. And you must do what needs to be done.

There is some good news though:

  1. The Navigator is expending a lot of mental and physical energy and, though she is fatigued and achy, she isn’t regressing too much in her health and is amazed at how well her body is handling things. She couldn’t do this level of effort even two months ago. She is confident that she’ll be able to begin very slowly regaining strength and fitness in autumn.
  2. Most exciting… she just ordered a new bicycle!

She will be the proud owner of a 2019 Salsa Timberjack Eagle NX soon… but we won’t pick up the bike until next June when we visit her parents (who will store the bike until then). We can’t wait… though Verne and I are most concerned about what she’ll do about a handlebar bag so we have a good riding position.

All for now. If Fozzie were around, I’d have him tell a joke. But you’re in luck – no jokes today. See-ya!

Nerdy chick in Australia who loves to ride and is accompanied by the crew: 'The Commander' Verne and the 'Mental Health Specialist' Kermit.

Thank you Janet. Em does take it one day at a time. She is definitely looking better and seems to have more base energy to work with. Verne and I are really ready for some long rides, though, and autumn seems a long way away for that! – Kermit

A NEW BIKE!!! That is about where almost everything else from Kermit got blurred for me. Everyone loves a new bike. I am so excited for your Em, Kermit. Now if she can get to do a little less work that would be a great preparation for riding the new bike! That huge wall of boxes looks like that will not happen right away. Thanks for letting us know about your Em.

Thank you Nancy. Em has not purchased a new bike since 2005, the bike we ride now, so we are very excited. Her work project will see two more huge batches of records shipped out over the next 6 months so there is plenty of work ahead. I’m glad I’ve got my own bike for when she doesn’t have the energy to ride. I can’t wait to ride the new bike with her though! – Kermit

Thanks for the update Kermit, (nice bicycle BTW) — how many road trains will be need to haul all those boxes?
New Salsa sounds fantastic — C’mon June! (More ways than one!)

Yes, Rich – we are looking forward to June and a visit to Colorado. That will also mean we survived another summer here and you survived snow and ice. Those boxes all go in a truck on Tuesday to a town outside of Sydney (7 hours away). There will be two more batches of similar size over six months. It’s a huge project, but it’s not often that amount of money is available, so Em is looking at the big picture as she fills in thousands of lines of entries in a spreadsheet. I just ride around and keep her company πŸ™‚ Kermit

Hey Kermit, Greg here. I just looked at the Salsa website and that Timberjack Eagle looks like one heck of a nice bike. If Emily figures out a way to attach a handlebar bag, you better get ready to hold on for your life. That bike will go places that’ll rock your brains and rattle your stuffing.

What? She said the front shock would make the ride smoother. She said the wider, grippier tires would mean we wouldn’t have to get off and push so often! You mean she is going to take us on even rockier and rougher stuff!? She did say we would probably have to ride in her Camelbak when in mtn biking mode – which is not ideal because we don’t like to face backwards. She will have to come up with something for the weekend rides with gear though. I’m old but I love this bike stuff. Sounds like I need to have another word with her. Thanks for the tip-off! – Kermit

Hi Em! Yay! That looks like a very cool bike, indeed! Just googled it. That’s going to get you back on your feet for sure!!!! So just be a good girl and live healthy until then.

Thanks, Suzanne. I really am doing my best to stick to an anti-inflammatory diet and ‘pacing’ my energy so that my body can get well. It’s been a year now, so hopefully I’m halfway through the worst of it. I hope you are enjoying your holiday to the coast πŸ™‚ — Em
