August Challenge

That is an ash tree which has been infected by the Emerald Ash Borer — among over 150+ trees counted all over town, and that’s just on city property

The ash borer larvae live just under the bark and chew through the channels feeding the limbs of the tree causing them to die

This tree is trying to make a come back in to lower sections, I’m told it is seldom successful and the trees must be cut down

No ash wood is to be taken out of Illinois — Keep your Ash at home!

Slingshot tree south of town — huge dead sections covered the road after a storm

No idea what kind of tree this is/was

Bark is long gone, so no ID clues there

Linden tree which has suffered greatly from Japanese Beetle infestation

An Open floor plan 🙂

Deceased Ash in the background

Well, I know, but still…..

(Maple Tree)

(Thanks Scooter for a new and interesting challenge, looking forward to the Virtual Arboretum)

Very much enjoy all the entries you all have provided -- great to see the everyday cycling venues. Being in eastern Illinois, scenery certainly isn't our forte, but oh well, the roads are normally quiet. Look forward to more and more entries from all of you, I do have a few over on BL -- in Bill's Day Rides, and one journal.

Oh, great. Nothing but the dead and dying back in your little town!

Interesting report……I’ve seen trees cut like the last one here too. Always takes me by surprise.

Thanks — the Linden trees will hopefully survive, the Ash trees are goners.
Lots more healthy trees to come in the Challenge posts — nice ride this morning looking for them.
