August Challenge #7

Catalpa Tree

Looking at Dave’s post of the Indian Bean tree, the resemblance to this Catalpa is striking.

And so it should be:  Probably not the exact same species but very closely related,

From TreesDirect UK

“Common Name: Indian Bean tree
Latin Name: Catalpa bignoniodes Aurea”

Catalpa Seed Pods

Beautiful when they bloom, but make a huge mess when all the petals fall

Very much enjoy all the entries you all have provided -- great to see the everyday cycling venues. Being in eastern Illinois, scenery certainly isn't our forte, but oh well, the roads are normally quiet. Look forward to more and more entries from all of you, I do have a few over on BL -- in Bill's Day Rides, and one journal.

Catalpa? Same name as an amazing rescue here where we almost went to war with the USA..but we chickened out.

    Interesting! What was that about?

A noble whale ship and commander
    Called the Catalpa, they say
    Came out to Western Australia
And took six poor Fenians away

So come all you screw warders and jailers
    Remember Perth regatta day
Take care of the rest of your Fenians
Or the Yankees will steal them away

I was reminded of this Australian Folk Song about the whale ship Catalpa.
