Avenue of Trees at King’s Park

Well in a few hours it’ll be spring here (1st Sept). So here’s my mixed challenge entry ‘Spring back in line’ with Lemon Scented Gum trees at Kings Park near the city, each one has a plaque for fallen soldiers in front of it.

I live in the hills just east of the city of Perth, Western Australia and I've loved cycling all my life, From riding to primary school when I was 8 years old to cycle touring as a grumpy old man. Cycling is freedom on two wheels and I love getting on my bike at any opportunity.

The leaves smell like lemon, especially if you crush them. I had a google search and there’s quite a few grown in Santa Barbara, LA as they like the warmer weather.

Beautiful trees! And good thing you jumped off of the road- they’re all driving on the wrong side!

Everything’s upside down and wrong way about here compared to you guys. I wish we’d all just agreed to drive on the same side all over the world. Many years ago I almost got cleaned up by a bike in Amsterdam as I looked the wrong way and tourists who’ve hired a car here from the airport here had head on collisions hours later.

Well I wouldn’t go that far. We’ve got some pretty upside down stuff happening here. You’ve probably noticed. 😉

Hey, Lednar. Pick a lane! What is this – a submission for August, or September? The judges are very confused.

It’s called an inter- monthly, transitional, best of both worlds, mongrel submission.

Well, I think that is an excellent transition from one challenge to the next.
    Those are some impressive trees.
What does ‘Road or Verge’ mean — written alongside the curb?

Interestingly those Lemon scented trees are native to Queensland (3000kms away), not here. The full marking on the road is “No parking on the road or verge” ,don’t want cars everywhere.

Great shot! I love lemon-scented gums – the smooth bark and that fresh, tangy smell. I used to ride by one on my after-work rides – my fav bit of the ride. It seems like a lot of towns have avenues of trees to honour the ANZACs. I used to live on Honour Avenue – which was a treed memorial avenue. But by the time I lived there the original trees had all been removed to widen the road and the trees replanted further out on the town approach.

A majestic tree for sure. Kings park’s roads are lined with trees and plaques for fallen soldiers. Trees removed, shows you how cars take precedence over everything in this country.
