Back to normal?

And I don’t mean Normal, Illinois.

Still some smoke in the air, but trying to get back to usual routine. Slipped out the Greenway. Spotted new, “unauthorized” artwork along the trail, but in an awkward location where I couldn’t get into position to photograph the entire piece without a wide-angle lens. Vineyards turning autumn colors. Saw a rider on a Rad Rover on Willowside Road and caught up to him for a brief conversation. Not the same Rad Rover or the same rider I met in Tolay awhile back.

Rain will interfere with bicycling, but we really need some precipitation around here.

I’ve got a few comments. 1) Normal, Illinois is fairly normal, but that town doesn’t have to fight nearly as hard as Santa Rosa to remain normal. You guys have had more than your share of abnormal. 2) Yesterday, only a few minutes after reading your post, I read an article in the Minneapolis Sunday newspaper about California’s fires–the dateline was Santa Rosa, California. 3) This morning I saw a news feed from The President, saying he was going to cut off funding for California wildfire disaster relief. Not surprisingly, he continues to criticize the state for not cleaning up the debris on the forest floors, while ignoring the fact that 90% of California’s forests are NATIONAL lands. (I’m sure you remember when The President claimed Finland cleans up such debris and that country has no forest fires, and then Finnish officials totally debunked that claim.) Politics. The guy is seriously f—ed up and I’m sorry for having to use that kind of language. 4) Nice ride. 5) I’m giving serious consideration to getting myself an Ogre in the near future. My 20-year old Trek Mountain Bike has seen its last days.

Per your item number three, don’t get me started on that guy! I will say that if the administration wants to withhold disaster funds from California, maybe California should stop sending its oversize proportion of tax funds to Washington DC. Fair enough? Meanwhile, I gotta grab my Finnish whisk broom and go sweep some forests.

As to the Ogre, I always thought my Long Haul Trucker was a fantastic all-purpose bike, but the Ogre stole my heart and now if I could have only one bike, that would be it. Everybody has different needs and different preferences, but I suspect you would really like an Ogre. It seems like it would be perfect for a wild and crazy guy like you.

I would agree with all the comments especially the #45!! If my new love for my Troll is like that of an Ogre you will love it!! I can’t tell you how much I love to ride my Troll!

Oh yeah, I had a #6) I think Santa Rosa should adopt that “unauthorized” work of art. I know such graffiti is often considered to be “vandalism,” but I really like some of it. I think that rose painting is worthy of something created by Banksy.
