BEFORE AND AFTER: June 12

You may have seen the short discussion regarding the wearing of facemasks while cycling. It was on the comments section of Old Grumbleface’s last post. I guess it’s a pretty common practice in his part of the country and I applaud his socially responsible actions.

That discussion reminded me that I’ve occasionally worn facemasks even before the Corona Virus existed.

BEFORE: March 3, 2018
It probably wasn’t Corona Virus, but I did have some kind of virus while touring in the Mojave Desert. It began as a chest cold and then moved to my sinuses. The facemask shown above provided great relief from the pain of the cold air blowing up my nose.

AFTER: June 12, 2020
Today I wore a similar facemask to protect myself and others from Covid-19.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Hohohohohohohohohohohohohoho! OOOOweeee! I can’t stop laughing at my funny joke. You see, that AFTER picture isn’t me at all . . . it’s Old Grumbleface himself. Chapeau Calcul!

Here comes the true re-enactment:

June 12, 2020: Nobody out here is going to get the ‘rona from ME, that’s for sure. For authenticity purposes, I wore most of the same clothing as I did in the original picture. That includes the same lined jacket and the same wool cap under my helmet. It was only 45-degrees back then, but it’s almost 80-degrees today. I was sweating like crazy when my photo shoot was over.

I also wear a face mask quite often when I’m cycling in the winterat least when it’s below 0-degrees (F).

Hi. My name is Greg and I ride my bike a lot. That is to say, I ride my bike almost every day. I go on long rides and short rides. Sunny rides, cloudy rides, and rainy rides. I like commuting, errand-running, day-tripping, overnighting, and touring on my bike. I ride on city streets, highways, gravel, single track, and snow with equal enthusiasm. Sometimes I ride fast and sometimes I ride slow. I try to keep my feet on the pedals at stop lights and I do not dismount when I hop up on a curb. I have a roadie bike, a mountain bike and a touring bike. I try to accept any challenge a bike ride can throw at me without complaint. But I don't like bugs.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Hohohohohohohohohohohohohoho! I really laughed out loud!
You had me fooled – although I already knew the picture of Old Grumble Face. I thought you went and bought a hi-viz shirt and blue paisly handkerchief for the impersonification!

It looks like you aren’t running out of ideas.

Hmmmm I thought that blue bandana looked suspiciously familiar.
Paisley dates back to ancient Persia — who knew?

My ace support crew wanted to know why I was laughing so hard I nearly fell off the sofa. I started to say “Greg….” and she immediately said, “Oh that bicycling guy in Minnesota” because she knew that explained everything. Great gag!

By the way, I think we have one thing in common for sure. The bigger the mask, the better we look. 😉
