In Case You’re Counting Down, This Is The Second Last Day Of My Arduous Journey Through Beforeandafterville

I was a little worried this morning. Thunderstorms have been rolling through MY Town since about nine o’clock last evening and are likely to continue almost all day. That’s okay by me. I really like thunder and lightning and rain, and those things wouldn’t stop me from taking at least a short bike ride. (Unless it was torrential rain, cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, or a tornado.) The thing that worried me is that I need to take an “After” picture for my Before & After project and I don’t like to subject my phone to excessive water exposure. A few years back, I couldn’t use my Blackberry for three days after getting it wet.

Somewhere around 11:00 a.m., the rain let up enough for me to don my rain jacket and hope for some good luck. I already knew the “before” picture I wanted to re-create so I didn’t need a lot of time — maybe a half-hour.

The ride was magical. The rain had reduced to nothing more than a sprinkle, yet the thunder continued to roll in the distance. Thunder is wonderful. Ground shaking thunder is thunderful. I had a nice mix of wonderful and thunderful before my ride was done. But I got my pictures.

August 14, 2019: Meriwether Lewis quite correctly points out something odd: “Look, Mr. Clark, it’s a doofus!”

June 29, 2020: A dude underneath his bike also pointed out a doofus.

Before the next round of heavy rain broke out, I managed to get in one more photo opportunity.

May 28, 2015: Before there was a micro-brewery in every town with a population of more than 2,000 people, I took this picture of my disappointment in the Maple Island Brewery not being opened yet at this fine drinking hour of 10:30 a.m.

June 29, 2020: MY Town was a little late to the party, but we finally got our own brewery about a year ago.

I was only a little wet when I got home. I toweled off and started uploading pictures and writing this thing you are now reading. Please join me for tomorrow’s grand finale.

Hi. My name is Greg and I ride my bike a lot. That is to say, I ride my bike almost every day. I go on long rides and short rides. Sunny rides, cloudy rides, and rainy rides. I like commuting, errand-running, day-tripping, overnighting, and touring on my bike. I ride on city streets, highways, gravel, single track, and snow with equal enthusiasm. Sometimes I ride fast and sometimes I ride slow. I try to keep my feet on the pedals at stop lights and I do not dismount when I hop up on a curb. I have a roadie bike, a mountain bike and a touring bike. I try to accept any challenge a bike ride can throw at me without complaint. But I don't like bugs.

Glad The weather behaved for you! I hope you didn’t finish off the whole growler while writing this post.

While I have been known to drink a whole growler in one day by myself, I only drank about half of it this time. Pretty good self-restraint if I do say so myself. There was more celebrating today after the grand finale though.

Very clever – I remember posing Verne and Kermit in Lewis and Clark poses when I came across some of those signs. And good on you for riding in thunder. I am not scared of many things, but I am definitely afraid of lightning. Good to see even little MY TOWN has a brewery.

Definitely got a winery, we spent some time at Brown Brothers many years ago.
