George Floyd / “I can’t breathe” / Black Lives Matter demonstrators have marched through Santa Rosa every day for at least a week. For the most part the marchers have been peaceful, but on some nights the composition of the crowd alters noticeably. A few of those individuals with a different agenda have been responsible for vandalism, especially broken windows.

While the SRPD response has remained relatively restrained, multiple demonstrators have been arrested, some yahoo in a truck attempted (unsuccessfully) to drive into the crowd, many streets in the city core have been temporarily blocked with concrete barriers, and rubber bullets fired by police have injured several people, some sufficiently to send them to hospital emergency rooms.

Thanks for the pics and insight into what it looks like where you are. There’s been a lot of coverage in our news here, also many big demonstrations throughout Germany, with few exceptions peaceful.

It looks like Santa Rosa has had many of the same positives and negatives come out of the protests as Minneapolis. It’s a difficult time, and politics are only making it worse.

Thanks for the info and photos. Certainly a different look for downtown Santa Rosa.
Just the one night of violent protest in Champaign, and the next morning lots of folks showed up to help clean up the mess.
Now, the desecration of the sock monkey — that’s just pitiful. 🙁
