Challenge of the Month: Stumped

I have been choosing and then rejecting so many different possible themes for this month. It was so much easier to complain about the given challenges than come up with one of my own. To make it more difficult – or challenging – is that everyone else has come up with such clever ideas. I’m stumped…

Ok, I have an idea, that’s it: Stump! We have plenty of tree stumps around here. No big rocks and stones, just gnarly trees and stumps and roots and things like that.

I took this picture on a ride along the Würm, close to home.

I'm a US born ex-pat, having lived most of my adult life in Munich, Germany. Cycling and photography are my favorite things.

    Excellent plan!
I really like the gnarly mass of wood, and the colors, gray/blues and browns, patches of green, and the red of your bicycles tail light and reflector.

Do you supposed that mass washed down the Wurm at some point or fell in place?
It appears some parts have been sawed.

I’m puzzled, too, as to why that stump is sitting there and how it got there. The Würm is too shallow I think to have transported it. Probably the work of the foresters…

Since my short ride, we’ve had rain, snow, or very cold temperatures, so I haven’t come upon the stump of a felled tree yet. I even looked up the word as I wasn’t really sure what constituted a “stump.” Probably have one somewhere behind me since several trees had to be cut down last year, but it is not a bike-able area. I did think it was interesting to see that a person who cuts down a tree is a “feller.” I’ll see what I can find before the month is over. Glad you are no longer “stumped” about a monthly challenge. That is one huge stump!

We have a lot of commercial forests so that must be why there are so many stumps – the trees are always being felled for one reason or another. We must have many good “fellers”, jolly good fellers 🙂

Oooh, I love your theme! You have many nice woodsy areas, so I am sure you will find and take gorgeous photos of many this month (if weather and health align!).

Thanks, Em! You are so encouraging!
My cough is better and the days are warming, so I am getting out, but I am also being more careful to protect my lungs. So no rides when it’s too cold, even if I can keep my toes and fingers warm.

That is one heck of a stump. And it’s another heck of a topic for me to rip-off for my next post. I should be able to find a stump around here somewhere.

Nice theme Suzanne. I will now keep my eyes out for something I might be able to add. But I know i will not find anything nearly as interesting, and almost eerie, as this. Such a good idea to keep the lungs warm and dry during this season.
