Challenge of the Month

Looking at tires here
The tire guarding the culvert has been there for over 40 years
Ive watched it deteriorate over all that time
Those are white nylon cords showing thru — bias ply
The tires on the Huffy are nearly as old, and unbelievably show little signs of it
Compare to the steel belted radials on the F-150
Narrow white stripe suggests late 60’s for this tire
Magnetic pick-up for modern cycle computer vs mechanical star wheel for 70’s cyclometer
Old vs New headlights
The Huffy sports a retro style LED — so it not old in technology, its old in appearance — its incandescent forerunner hangs on the garage wall

Good job on the challenge, and interesting background information as always!
Thanks! I know from sad experience to be careful handling worn out steel belted radial tires, those steel wires are sharp a razors — and the nemesis of bicycle tires too!
Ah yes, I like your take on the challenge Rich. I always like your posts. It is not short of amazing to me all the information you have ;’-)
Thanks, the By Guess and By Gosh methodology sometimes works out.
The WWW is a great source of info! 😉
Very inspiring, Rich! You prompted me to finally submit something for this month’s challenge.
Thanks, — just read your post — you really outta post a link to that event and your comments about helmets — lots to be learned there!
Helmets are a hot button topic, I know, — you presented a very fair and unbiased discussion for anyone still on the fence to consider.
That’s a good idea for the challenge. Well seen!
