CLC #7 to complete the 2019 challenge

Cindy could not ride today so she drove and I rode my bike down the hill to meet her (and back up the hill after) for tea and crumpet at the Red Cup Cafe.

There are some whimsical (funky) sculptures outside of the cafe that always capture attention.

It was, as usual, a delightful time with Cindy (hidden by the sun glare), and we enjoyed our tea and ‘crumpet’. (Btw — I call any pastry we stop for, a crumpet, and in fact I lead occasional ‘Tea and Crumpet’ rides for our club. There is not an actual crumpet to be found anywhere we go.)

Thanks for the challenge Kathleen, I enjoyed each ride and every purchase. And the oom-pah-pah it provided for some of the low motivation days ;’-). And NOW I have the sanctioned glory from the goddess. Life is good.

Congratulations on a successful CLC — always wondered what a crumpet actually is — one site said its kind of a cross between a pancake and english muffin — watched a guy make them on Youtube — they look good, and no I wont be 🙂

Thanks Rich, it was a good challenge ;’-)

I have had crumpets and they are pretty much as you describe. Kind of like a dense single layer English muffin with holes in it. Not bad but nothing to rave about in my taste buds.

Nice sculptures. And congrats for successfully completing the Challenge. In my tea-centric universe, ANY pastry goes perfectly with black English breakfast tea (which is itself perfect for any time of day, served at any temperature). In fact, any kind of wheat-like substance will complement my tea just fine. Oh, and I’ll take extra gluten with that, please. 😉

Thanks. Bill. I feel basically the same as you about tea and anything. My more usual choice is a green tea (if good quality), but often choose English black tea when out someplace. But I like my tea HOT, not tepid like some places serve.
      Nice challenge!

Many years ago I was visiting Barbados (and doing some cycling on a rented bike). When I innocently ordered iced tea with my dinner without checking the menu, the restaurant staff seemed completely flummoxed. We finally solved the problem by having them bring me a pot of hot tea, a mug, and a big bowl of ice cubes.

Thai is funny! When I have traveled through the southeast (and not all that far south), they have thought me weird to want hot tea! They would always tell me they did not have any hot tea, only ice tea! Ha, I said, give me a mug of hot water and I will purchase a box of tea bags.

Well done, Nancy G. Eternal glory is bestowed upon you.

Great job of completing the challenge! You should come down here to ride – crumpets, aplenty! The secret to crumpets is toasting them just right and adding honey… which gets down in all those holes and permeates it with sweetness. I haven’t had them in quite some time, but I do like them with honey… just like scones are really nice with fresh cream and jam…. otherwise, no.

Sounds like YOU know how to dress up crumpets to be rather tasty! I can eat scones anyway they come, plain is fine with me but I have not been spoiled with that fresh cream it is served with elsewhere ;-).
