Great to see more reporting from Taiwan! I was surprised to see that the painted lanterns were still there in Taitung. We were delighted by them four years ago, thinking they were out for some festival. They must be a permanent part of the scene.

It was my first trip to Taiwan. I had heard a lot about how good the riding is there. And of course, my Taiwanese friend Pai was constantly talking it up.

I really enjoyed it. The cycling infrastructure in Taipei amazed me too. More in my next post.

Wow! Great ride with a great group, although I think I would have called for the sag wagon before the end. Thanks for sharing the ride and photos.

      My pleasure Bill.

I ride with a group which embraces the SAG wagon. You would fit right in with us.

Having never been to Taiwan I was really interested to see the pictures accompanying your ride report. I somehow thought the island was small and very industrial. Day 1 and the early part of your ride made me re-think! What a scenic ride and with scenic you normally have HILLS. You had far too many – I would have been sharing the sag wagon with Bill. Thanks for telling the tale.

I know what you mean Tony. It was my first visit to Taiwan. I’m sure there is lots of industry, but it must be concentrated in the north. We saw very little along the southeastern side of the island.

We also rode along the amazing riverside bike path system in Taipei. You would enjoy that. More in my next post.

What an amazing ride – I’ve read forward on your blog to Day 5. You had everything – superb scenery, big climbs, lots of challenge, people and bike repairs, hot springs, diversity in shops and food, good and bad weather. You certainly packed in a lot in that short tour. I loved it – thanks for showing us around Taiwan!
