CLC Spring 2020/1: A Windy Day

March 6

Janos planned a nice loop so, although it was windy, we thought let’s go anyway. We have e-bikes, don’t we? By the time we got to Unterbrunn, about 6 km, we decided it best to turn back and not cycle through the woods ahead. We didn’t fancy an encounter with a falling branch or tree.

Here we are in Unterbrunn, some grey clouds up above.
Unterbrunn is on one of our favorites loops.

From home we set off in the other direction on open roads and paths over the fields and no danger of a tree trunk crashing down. By the time we got to Buchendorf, another 3 km, the wind had picked up. Just a few photos before we go, we said.

The clouds are looking pretty threatening by now.
Couldn’t pass up this photo op.

When the wind threw my bike into the ditch – oh no, my new bike – I knew it was time to get back, but fast. There was a steady strong wind which we could handle, but the gusts were something else.

Just before my bike toppled over

Originally I hadn’t planned to make this little outing a challenge entry. I had a theme in mind for the seven rides, but somehow I have lost my enthusiasm for the project, at least for the time being, which would involve riding into Munich a couple of times. Maybe in the fall.

And what was the purchase that I brought along on my first CLC ride? My new bicycle of course!

I was relieved to find that you did to go in the ditch WITH your bike!

    What a beautiful ride!

Those were some stormy clouds. Glad your bike wasn’t damaged after being toppled and you made it home before the skies dumped rain. Of course, the wind was your Immediate challenge for that ride. Your photos never disappoint. Love that picture of the lone shelter in the field with the black skies above!!

Clouds resemble here, plus rainy, damp/’chill wind, and mud, lots of mud.
Wouldn’t you know, your new bicycle gets blown into a ditch. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

    Dearest,
A Husqvarna bike? Does it have a chainsaw motor? That’s the only Husqie product I know.
But such beautiful and dramatic photos. Thank you.
