I’m safe. I’m going to write up a post tomorrow with some pics. Fires are burning in all my favourite cycling spots and about 8-10 miles away – though I am not in the path. I went to Albury (big town) for Friday and Saturday to get out of the heat and smoke. Albury set a new temp record of 46.1C on Saturday. Today (Sun) I drove home, had lunch, talked to my parents and then got an emergency alert on my phone saying to evacuate. My car had a light layer of ash all over it. So I left and drove all the way back to Nigel’s house. It is less smoky here, but saying that means little. The emergency warning has been rolled back to a Watch and Act warning, so they must have pulled up the fire. Winds should change and push it away again. So I’m safe, but I AM SO OVER SUMMER at this point.

So glad you are safe Em. My heart also goes out for all the animals that have been hurt or killed by the fires. Devastating to say the least, but it is good to know that you are ok, Thanks for the update.

Hi Nancy. I too am safe. We have a number of fires burning in Tasmania but not around Longford. Last weekend we were covered in smoke on Saturday morning. People were concerned. It was thick. It came to us across Bass Strait from the Victorian fires! We visited friends in Brighton and it was smokey there from the nearby Pelham fires. Mostly the fires have been lit by lightning but one large fire at Fingal was deliberately lit. The bastard has been identified and arrested. Interestingly, as I looked at the Fire Authority website, I saw there was a fire in Pakenham Street yesterday – where we live. A vehicle fire apparently. Just been to check – not ours!!

Thanks Tony. Glad to know that you are ok. Thanks for the update. It is so difficult to understand why anyone would set a fire like that. So glad he was identified and apprehended.

Thanks. It’s nervous times. Bushfire season is never much fun. We’ve been pretty lucky where we are, it’s mostly cleared rural land although the fires came pretty close one year before we moved into our current place so we know it could happen. It’s been particularly bad this year on the mainland (as you know).
