CSX Doppler

Just happened to be in the right place at the right time . . . . .
Thanks to Bill’s suggestion and Bob’s train photos
I never would have thought of it
Riding down 7th street, I happened to hear CSX sounding 2 miles to the south — right turn on to 4000N and half a mile to the RR and got there just a minute or so before the train did
(That is a 100 car unit coal train hauling empties back to Wyoming for low sulfur coal which is blended with high sulfur Illinois coal to meet EPA emission standards at the steam generation facility at Newton IL)

Herr Christian Doppler is very proud of you!
Excellent! Much better than I could have gotten from my train encounter, even if I had successfully recorded it.
Interesting stuff about the high sulfur/low sulfer coal. I never knew there was a difference. I’ve seen the largest coal mine in the U.S. It is outside of Gillette, Wyoming, and I guess it must produce the low sulfer variety.
Love the soundtrack there!
Well done capturing the Doppler. And well done for correctly computing the algebra problem that allowed you to intercept the train before it made that crossing.
Our version of PBS has just put some wildlife docos on its streaming service. There is one about wombats (it doesn’t talk about the the threat of mange that is a huge problem for the bare-nosed wombat): https://iview.abc.net.au/show/australia-remastered-wild-australians Not sure if that has a regional block on it or not, but worth a go.
Awww Wombats must be blocked, my screen just goes blackish. 🙁
Thanks for the link anyway.
” And well done for correctly computing the algebra problem”
Well, if By Guess and By Gosh is algebra, then I did. 🙂
