December Challenge – I see red

Can you find the RED in the above photo, very subtle.

So far this summer has been RED hot and setting all sorts of (the wrong) records. I decided to go for a solo night ride around the city and saw a red car, wasn’t sure if I should take a photo for security reasons as they’re our version of the FBI but it obviously wasn’t undercover.

Then I found myself in amongst the annual Christmas Pageant where hundreds of floats and over 100000 spectators crowd the city (There are some advantages in having Christmas in summer). There was a bright red sleigh with a  burly guy with a red outfit on it.

Wishing all the Cycle 365 folks a happy Kangaristmas .

and here’s a song from Split Enz an ‘out there’ New Zealand Band

I live in the hills just east of the city of Perth, Western Australia and I've loved cycling all my life, From riding to primary school when I was 8 years old to cycle touring as a grumpy old man. Cycling is freedom on two wheels and I love getting on my bike at any opportunity.

I didn’t get arrested for blowing their cover.

Red not so subtle in your feature photo ;’-). Happy Kangaristmas to you as well …

You;d have to be careful going around corners on that baby. At the moment it’s early or late rides.

I know I must be terribly hemispheric-centric (“toxic northern hemisphere privilege” and all that; I should go for counseling and treatment), but somehow celebrating Christmas in summer just seems to be horribly wrong. How poor Santa must perspire in his heavy red outfit! 😉

I have done 19 Christmases over here and it still does NOT feel like Christmas AT ALL. I have all this cognitive dissonance going on and it all just feels so odd, even after roasting through many 25 Decembers just like a chestnut on a fire. It’s like everyone’s getting ready for a party but you didn’t get the invite. The other weird one is Easter with all the “spring” bunnies and decorations with pastel colours and bright greens… and it is all so dead and brown here at that time of year. Christmas, though, definitely just feels wrong!

Yes us Downunder people get very offended when the northerners assume that January is cold. I think that in my brain the hemispheres sometimes don’t get along too.

I hear Santa enjoys visiting here after freezing in Finland.

Back in about 1980 I bought a Split Enz album (Mental Notes) after I heard a quirky song on my college radio station. Somewhere along the line I traded it in for something like a $1 credit toward another album. Maybe it was a Lednar Zeppelin album.

Don’t know much about that album, they went on to make lots of good songs as Split Enz then formed ‘Crowded House
‘ Lednar Zepp were pretty good to.

I love the kangaroo lights in the window. Funny, I thought of the Split Enz song when I first “read” the challenge for this month, too!

It was the first song I thought of too, nothing else comes to mind. Lots of fairy light kangaroos around the city. We’ve been fried the last week and it looks like your turn now, stay cool.
