December Challenge: Red Fraggle

When I saw the topic of this month’s challenge, I immediately thought: I’ve got the perfect subject for this one. You cannot get more RED than Red Fraggle. If you don’t know Red, you can read about her here.

December 1 in my part of Oz was blessedly cool and rainy. We are so low on rain that we love every drop. And after some hot days already, a temp of 12C when we went out for a quick ride was just so blissful.

Kermit and Verne graciously, or not quite so graciously in Verne’s case, let Red take their spot on the mountain bike for a 10km spin between rain showers. We wanted to give the mtn bike a ride to keep the sealant distributed in the tubeless tires.

Coleman’s Lane. They’ve regraded and re-gravelled it since I last rode it. It is a blissful 12C with a drip and drop here and there after morning showers.

Red also gave Kermit’s bike a try – though she had some troubles with her tail getting caught up in the rear wheel.

Tomorrow I head back to Melbourne for a follow-up appointment with the specialist and then I have the week off before I start my new job. It’s not likely there will be much riding – the new medication is making me feel really, really lethargic, brain foggy and crappy. I am hoping to do an easy overnight ride of some description – we’ll see what happens!

Nerdy chick in Australia who loves to ride and is accompanied by the crew: 'The Commander' Verne and the 'Mental Health Specialist' Kermit.

Red looks like she is in “bliss” on those handlebars!!! Hope your new job is all you want it to be and the new specialist gets you on a recovery course soon. I’ve been really MIA of late …..working and then I was selected for a jurist in a trail that may last a month and we are only a week in😳😳 works for now because it’s raining so much I can’t ride anyway…..good to see you!!

I think Red was just excited to see some rain and cool temps! Jury duty – yuck! I get listed on the roll everywhere I ever live (no kidding – I’ve been on a potential juror list 9 times in my life already), but I’ve never actually had to serve. I’ve either had an excuse or the trial was cancelled or moved to a time when my 3 month period was up. I’ve been on the list 3 times already in Oz and I’ve only been a citizen since 2006. Nigel is 52 and NEVER been on the list! i hope there is nothing really traumatic in the evidence that you’ll have in your memory afterwards!

Red would look great on the bicycle under the red Casey’s fascia — where, incidentally, NOTHING, is EVER on sale — ( no Black Friday there, I made that up.) 🙂

Red sorta has the look of ‘someone’ who toured with streamers flowing from their helmet.

All the Best with your appointment and the new job!!

Thanks, Rich. I thought Casey’s might have had a half price coffee if you buy a donut sort of special on Black Friday to fuel people up for their shopping!

Indeed, you cannot get more “red” than Red Fraggle. Good idea taking her on a ride-along. I would have liked to go on a bike ride with Red Skelton, but he’s not as cute as Red Fraggle, and likely not as good of a cycling companion either. Plus, he’s dead.

Just think if Red Skelton had been a guest star in one of the Muppet episodes in the 70s. I’m actually kinda surprised he never appeared on the show. I did find one connection though from a fan page:

Q: Shortly after the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, the “The Red Skelton Hour” started its weekly TV variety show with a short skit that took place on the lunar surface. During the skit, moon men appeared. They danced and pantomimed to background music in which the main instrument sounded like a kazoo. The only lyrics were made-up words. What was the name of the background music? Who composed it? B.D.N., Fort Smith, Ark.

A: I believe you are referring to “Mah Na Mah Na,” written by Piero Umiliani. Part of the soundtrack for the 1968 Italian film “Svezia, Inferno e Paradiso” or, in English, “Sweden, Heaven and Hell” Umiliani’s ditty found its way into the Red Skelton skit. Of course, the song would later achieve greater fame, thanks to the Muppets.

Red Fraggle certainly fills the bill for the challenge! I love all her different poses… You really captured her personality in those shots.
