Down in the Flood

During some winters, California as a whole receives little rain and snow. That’s a problem for plants and animals, but good for bicycling. During some winters, California as a whole receives much rain and snow. That’s a problem for bicycling, and sometimes a problem for everyone else. This winter has seen no shortage of rain around here. Too much of a good thing, some might say.

How much? The current series of storms is bringing northern California high winds, downpours, localized flooding, closed roads, mudslides, downed trees, power outages, drowned automobiles, evacuations, and many accidents due to slick highways. Definitely a problem.

Well, at least the soil moisture is improving. I feel sad for the homeless, though.

I remember our team during Americorps NCCC being very disappointed to find that our images of sunny CA did not apply to northern, coastal CA in winter. It was a pretty cool and soggy couple of months working with the Monterrey Peninsula Regional Parks District as one of our first major projects. Of course, that was forgotten when we got to work in AK for two months in June/July which was amazing!

Thanks for the photos — excellent! Interesting to see the now familiar places in current conditions.
I think we are all ready for the weather to cease and desist for a while.
The garden photos are especially beautiful, the ivy (?) in particular.
The little Giants Gnome must be thinking, “I’m NEVER going to field a line drive like that last one again!”
