Fox Valley

We’ve had so many great rides during our stay in John Day, but our ride north up US 395 from Mount Vernon to Fox Valley ranks high on the list. With abandoned and weathered log cabins, grazing cattle, rusting implements, split rail fences, and a near ghost town, it’s really a slice of the old west.  And today it even came with a small cattle drive!

Keep movin’, movin’, movin’
Though they’re disapprovin’
Keep them dogies movin’, rawhide!

This is just a placeholder for now. I’ll add a real description when I get more time.

Nice video. It made me think of the Scooter/Mr. Grumby/Clint character, Rowdy Yates, on Rawhide. In this case, it was Rocky Yates.

Glad you’ve had so many nice rides and there was a fence between you and the dogs today.

I end up driving cattle and sheep a fair bit in my rides here. I prefer sheep – if there are very many on the road, their poop is a lot less messy and easier to avoid 🙂

Yes, I really prefer sheep too, and not just for the traction problem. Cattle are big and horny – a bad combination, I think. Goats are even better though.

Everyone wants to ride with Rocky, including the dogies!

Also, Happy May Day. New month, new challenge?

I came across couple of sheep in the road last week. Before I phoned the Cops to report I came across a bloke fixing a fence. I told him about the sheep. He said “Were they woolly ones?”

I thought he was joking but no – back up the road there was a paddock of unshorn sheep (woolly ones) and a paddock of shorn sheep, so he needed to know which paddock they were from!
