With apologies to Kool and the Gang, I could not contain my glee at having completed round one of the Cycle365 Scavenger Hunt in its entirety. It took an hour-and-a-half of cycling and scanning the neighborhoods of MY Town this morning, but I was finally able to check off the 18th ,19th, and 20th items on my checklist.

I checked off today’s finds with blue ink.

Oh, you want proof before you can celebrate my success? Well, here it comes.

Name(s) On A Boulder

Fork In The Road

The minute I saw Rich’s list, I knew the reel lawn mower was going to be the most difficult thing to find. My brother, the Park Tool guy, has one. He’s the only person I know who owns and actually uses one of those things to mow his lawn. But I didn’t feel like riding up to Minneapolis and back on a 93-degree day just to photograph his rare mowing machine.

I have to admit, today I just got lucky. After all these days of searching I found a reel lawn mower, quite literally, in my own back yard.

Reel Lawn Mower (rod too)

I’ll take a couple days to revel in my success, and then I’ll be back to start Round Two of the challenge.

Ya gotta love those disco days, am I right?

Hi. My name is Greg and I ride my bike a lot. That is to say, I ride my bike almost every day. I go on long rides and short rides. Sunny rides, cloudy rides, and rainy rides. I like commuting, errand-running, day-tripping, overnighting, and touring on my bike. I ride on city streets, highways, gravel, single track, and snow with equal enthusiasm. Sometimes I ride fast and sometimes I ride slow. I try to keep my feet on the pedals at stop lights and I do not dismount when I hop up on a curb. I have a roadie bike, a mountain bike and a touring bike. I try to accept any challenge a bike ride can throw at me without complaint. But I don't like bugs.

Congratulations! 19 of 20 is a very good score.
Problem is that 20th photo — As Suzie Orman might say, you are denied! Denied, Denied, Denied!
Creativity Score: 100, Scavenger Hunt Score: 0
Although it does appear you hooked a great Surly.

You may petition the grievance coordinator Helen if you so choose. πŸ™‚

    Off to Round 2!

    Thanks for participating!!

      Dear Helen Waite,

That dastardly dude, Rich, just DEEEE-NIED credit for my reel lawn mower photo. Please make him reconsider his bad decision. And please don’t make me wait.

Thank you for taking up this grievance. Sincerely,

From the Desk of Helen Waite
        Re: Rejected Photo

As noted, that “Dastardly Rich” (I would prefer replacing the ‘D’ with a ‘B” but I digress) . . . rejected your photo of the Reel Lawnmower.

After judicious consideration, extensive research in the discovery phase of this issue, consulting with my colleagues across the nation, I have reached a decision.

I hasten to add, said Rich DID give you high marks and praise for creative ingenuity, but that in not the issue here.

However. The list of Items clearly states the photo should be of a Reel Lawn mower, not a reel ON a lawnmower. My colleagues (mostly) agree and recognize your disappointment and angst over said Rich’s decision.

Given such logic and thought process the judgement can only be: SUSTAINED

        Sincerely, Helen

Addendum: Could someone please turn up the AC down here?

While disappointed with your final judgement, I must compliment the excellent public relations language you used in rejecting my plea.

Is that really a reel lawn mower? I was imagining something else – but haven’t found that either.

    • By: gregblood Posted: June 8, 2021

A real reel lawn mower is as hard to find as a 1983 Corvette.

  3. By: Bill Stone Posted: June 8, 2021

If that’s the kind of reel lawn mower your brother uses, I might have to start wondering about Park Tools. πŸ˜‰

PS: Someone might have fallen for it hook, line, and sinker.

His reel lawnmower looks a little different than this one, but it does the same job — only slower and with fewer fish.
