Hunting Sheep in Shadows

Today there were plenty of sheep but none in shadow.  Although the sun was getting up there, the cool wind from the east was keeping the sheep in the field.  When it gets hot they often seek shade in the shadows thrown by the pivot wheels (sometimes even the shadow from the main bar!) – but not today.

I began to think the Sunday morning hunt for SiS was not going to be productive when I found a bunch of sheep hiding in a copse of fir trees.  Not sheltering from the sun, more like from the wind today.   Nevertheless I count them as a success for the challenge.  Because it’s MY challenge!

Notes on the picture.  Initially I pulled out the Coolpix but then found I had omitted the SD card!  So, OSMO is was.  Luckily it has the ability to take 5 shots of varying exposures allowing post processing of an HDR image (thanks Suzanne).  This means the sheep can just about be seen relaxing while they ruminate on the topic of the day.

Good find! Still hot enough up here for them to be in the shadows for sure, but alas I’ve been too tired and busy to do a ride of decent length. Hope you feel like your ride fitness is getting where it needs to be for your trip.

What am a looking for is the classic shot of a single tree in the paddock completely surrounded by sheep as they seek the shade. The challenge remains properly unanswered.

Ride fitness. I suspect we will be underdone as we push off from the Ferry. It will be a case of getting fitter as we go!

Always feel a little sorry for the sheep on a hot day fighting for shade and wonder what happens when the tree eventually dies.

The good news is that sheep aren’t like rocks, and have feet. Barring climate catastrophes, they can just walk on to a different tree if that one up and dies in them. Unless it actually dies ON them.

Good find – but the shadows part of your challenge sure is hard to meet!

Well, I didn’t find any shady sheep on my ride yesterday, but I found a sleepy steed (which almost rhymes with sheep). I suspect it won’t pass as copy catting though. My hunt continues! Love your challenge. Cheers & happy pedaling.
