Although I hike it year-round, I don’t get up to Annadel State Park on two wheels much in the winter due to wet, muddy trails. Many of the mountain bikers around here love rolling through that squishy stuff and emerging with bikes and selves caked in clinging mud. It tends to wreck the trails, it’s not beneficial for drivetrains, and I probably don’t really need a mud bath. I stick to pavement when Annadel is wet.

But the trails have almost completely dried out at this point, so I stripped down the Ogre and headed up this morning.

They call me Old Grumble-Face. I have no idea why they do that....

Ilsa n Joe — I wondered about the name — beautiful spot!
Scott could probably take care of the lack of a half moon with his Swiss Army knife. 😉

The exterior of that outhouse is a perfect example of outhouse architecture. Inside, I was surprised to see a couple of modern-looking accessories. It was a nice mix of old and new.

Eighty-six year old Jim on a bike has inspired me to someday become 86-year old Greg on a bike.

Yep, Jim was quite inspiring. As to the outhouse, some modern accessories, but it definitely didn’t smell modern.
