Independence Rock

I’m driving solo across the continent, with the Ogre in the back of the Forester. Some days I hop on the Ogre to ride a few miles out-and-back or in a loop. That slows my forward progress, but enables me to explore some interesting places along the way.

Third stop, Independence Rock, Wyoming.

They call me Old Grumble-Face. I have no idea why they do that....

Independence Rock looks very much like some of the rocks around here in the Wheatbelt. Those wagons must have only done about 10kms a day, you can see why all travel in Australia in the early days was by sea, much quicker. Enjoying the roadtrip.

Ah, I rode from Lander to Independence Rock on the 4th of July in 2013 and camped just beyond the rest area in a county parking lot. It was an imperial century day, and I had not planned at the beginning of the day to actually camp at Independence Rock on Independence day. 5 years ago! Time sure flies. I really enjoyed those buried Miocene mountains in that stretch, too. The sense of history there was also pretty strong – glad you had a chance to get out for a spin to see the landmarks 🙂
