July Challenge #1

When I ride my bike to meet my cycling buddy Cindy at her house, I pass by this monochromatic building. It is at the County Park which is right on a lake where there is always lots of activity in the summer months. And some in the other months as well.

The first two shots are taken on the way to Cindy’s house. First one is by poking my camera through the holes of the chain link fence.

I had to get my bike in the photo so took this one as there was no entry onto the grounds.

On the way home from Cindy’s there was a groundskeeper whacking away some weeds and he allowed me to enter the grounds.

Back in its day this was a dance hall. Now, he says, there is a lot of equipment for the park stored in there. He is currently preparing the grounds for some classes for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and others (I hope Girl Scouts) who will be arriving to learn things like archery. He includes that there are other uses for the building as well, like music presentations.

To add a little splash to this dull (get it? Gray — dull) post here are a couple of things I passed on our ride on this day.

Nice spouting fountain at a neighborhood pond (get it? Splash from fountain).

And as I neared home, I found this creature spraying splashing water (get? Splash form unicorn).

Ohhhhhh I like quonset huts! That one does have a nice monochromatic patina.
Sooo, am I correct in thinking that now blue and gray are no longer permissible under the rules of the challenge? If so, there go my plans for the black Diamond Back, but Bill already had the idea, so I defer on that one.

No Rich, you’re not constrained by color choice. With the exception of submissions from Bavaria, it’s fine to reuse colors as often as you wish.

        Ah ok! Thanks!
Rich begins to dig foxhole in prep for the imminent barrage from Bavaria!!

Ha ha, Scott! Since I have Photoshop at my disposal, I could do anything I want with colors. But I figured that wouldn’t be fair, so maybe I’ll just submit green green green as often as I want. Or grey. Or red.

I think I will stay out of this conversation ;’-0.

I think the chain link fence adds to the grayness of the building. And thank goodness previously posted July Challenge colors are not off-limits or the thing I just posted would be shot all to hell.

Thanks Greg, I like that fence as well.
Not to worry — you know there are many shades of … ummmm … Grey, as they say.

I really like that building, and as Greg said, the fence in front makes a great picture. Naturally your bike adds the finishing touch, and it doesn’t have to fit in with the monochrome theme, thank goodness.

Thanks Suzanne. I like the fence as well. I wanted to give different views of the building as it has so much history. I love when old buildings are NOT torn down ;’-0. So many in the US end up as rubble!
