June Cycle Days Challenge

I have a big riding goal for the year. I probably won’t meet that. How many other goals should I take on? How can I participate in Suzanne’s Cycle Days Challenge? These were the things I pondered back in May.

I decided that one way the Cycle Days Challenge could help me get closer to my mileage goal for the year would be to take a picture somewhere along each ride I took on a weekday after work. This would make me want to go ride more after a long day at work… because it would be embarrassing to only have a couple photos to show for any one month.

I decided I would try to take the picture in the same spot on the rail trail each day – when I use that route. That way I could kinda track what the different seasons looked like at a similar time of day (between 4.30 and 5.30 pm each day). On the days I didn’t use the rail trail, the photo would just be somewhere along whatever route I used.

I work 4 days a week – these photos don’t include weekend rides. For June, I managed a ride on 11 of 17 work days. Please see the video for a 30 second summary. Please, please excuse the crappiness of the video – it is the best I could do in 10 minutes with the ‘not-so-great-I-wish-they-still-had-Moviemaker’ video capabilities in Windows 10 photos. I did not have the patience or energy to work on it longer. All photos are with my phone – so pic quality at dusk is not so ‘flash’.

I present to you my entry for the Cycle Days Challenge – June

Nerdy chick in Australia who loves to ride and is accompanied by the crew: 'The Commander' Verne and the 'Mental Health Specialist' Kermit.

I love your idea with the same-place-same-time-every-day and the video! No need to apologize for picture quality. It’s great.
Thanks for taking up my challenge. I’m happy that it’s helping you reach your mileage goal for the year. I’m sure “The Commander” and “The Mental Health Specialist” are proud of you, too.

Thank you, Suzanne, for the challenge. I didn’t think I could be creative in different bike photos – so I needed a different idea and one that would fit into my yearly goal. Verne and Kermit don’t know too much about this challenge, as they don’t go with me on after work rides! Shhh…. don’t tell them!

Thats a great idea! And how to post a slide show totally escapes me.
Is that an old Whistle post in some of the photos?
The cornfield photos sorta replicate what you are doing, but, I didnt give that much thought to it!

Yes, this is a little like the Corn In Progress photos – only the rail trail goes mostly through vineyards and pasture which don’t have quite the same visual ‘growth’. I should get some pics of the new grains, though. The “W post” is not a whistle post – though there is one of those remaining on the trail. It’s where the magpie sits to come swoop you in spring!! The “W” on that post is indicating that the town of Wahgunyah (the other end of the trail) is 7 kms away. I thought if I took a photo by the post, I would at least remember exactly where to take the photo!

To make the video, I used the Photos program in Windows 10. You can make simple videos in it if you have the Fall Creators Update from last year. I have a youtube account. So I uploaded the video to youtube, and then I embedded the link in the post here.
