Just Another Bunker

The summer continues to be exceptional – no rain in sight. Janos and I got on our bikes today in quest of more hochbunkers, my collection is growing. I planned a route to Allach, a Munich neighborhood to the northwest of the city, on roads we don’t usually take. Exploring and discovering is always fun. I can now add two new overground bunkers to the collection.

One was hardly recognizalble as a bunker. It was converted to a hotel in 2014 and substantial changes were made in its appearance. It looked like it might be fun to stay there although it is surrounded by construction sites at the moment, so maybe not so good. The second bunker wasn’t far. It looked like it isn’t used for anything at all. There was a sturdy fence preventing any exploring to the back of the building so our view was limited to the street. Our little ride to the outskirts of Munich and back was 26 km.

The bunker hotel.

I'm a US born ex-pat, having lived most of my adult life in Munich, Germany. I have three kids and eight grandchildren - so I'm pretty old. Cycling, photography and walking are my favorite things.

Nice bunker. I’ve seen similar conversions of retired lighthouses into Bed & Breakfasts here in the USA.

The Hotel is a great looking conversion!
Fascinating topic and photos — thanks for the education.
Im reading there were 74 air raids on Munich, so they must have been used quite often.

Glad you are getting such nice days for riding. Winter must feel a million miles away now. That is an amazing transformation of a bunker!
