I’m driving solo across the continent, with the Ogre in the back of the Forester. Some days I hop on the Ogre to ride a few miles out-and-back or in a loop. That slows my forward progress, but enables me to explore some interesting places along the way.

Eighth stop, Katy Trail, Missouri.

They call me Old Grumble-Face. I have no idea why they do that....

What wonderful photo journal of that part of their trail Bill. I am not the biggest fan of trail travel as many times I have felt I was missing everything by being in those “tree tunnels”, or hidden by bushes. You make this one look quite interesting. Better look at the Katy than I have seen by others.

I agree, Nancy. The trail is lovely and well maintained, and this stretch was very photogenic and historical, but I think you’re right about the “tree tunnel” effect. I could get tired of it pretty quick. I kept thinking of Greg’s remarks about “view blockers.” Of course, I’m not sure the entire trail is arched by trees like this segment; it might actually be a welcome respite from many miles of riding through open fields of crops. And of course the easy, practically flat rail grade beats the heck out of all those constant killer ups and downs on Missouri roads and highways!

Looks like a great ride — I liked all the photos, among the best Ive seen of the Katy.
Not many tree tunnels around here.
Now, I wanna go ride the Tunnel Hill Trail in Southern Illinois.
You have certainly had some great rides on your Coast to Coast trip, and a few more to come hopefully!
