Lighted Bicycle Parade

The Trail House is our local coffee shop / brew pub / bike shop near the Annadel mountain bike trails. Lots of serious mountain bikers hang there. Serious I’m not, but I’ve been known to frequent the joint with Jeff and/or Cap’n Will. This year the Trail House sponsored its Second Annual Lighted Bicycle Parade, about which I was initially alerted by our neighbors when I spotted their little boys riding bikes adorned with Christmas lights. I checked the Trail House website and learned the parade would pedal from its parking lot to the nearby neighborhood renowned — with good reason — as Christmas Tree Lane.

My ace support crew wanted me to attend a holiday party with her this evening, but how could I possibly do that when the alternative was a bicycle parade?

They call me Old Grumble-Face. I have no idea why they do that....

What a fun idea! Maybe I can get the local bicycle club to do something like that next year!

    That is pretty neat!

A segment of bikepeople.tv had a similar thing going on in Iowa.

Just think of all the lights you could put on the front wheels of a Rungu!

Rich, you are a genius! Who wouldn’t buy a bike just because it could accommodate more lights? I bet if you submit that “more lights” idea to the Rungu sales and marketing department, they would gladly repay you with one of their electric, juggernaut, Rubicon, trail edition three-wheelers. 😉

PS: Last year my ace support crew gave me one new tire for the Ogre for Christmas. When I gently asked why just one, she said it cost so much she thought she had ordered two. Now, when I showed her the Rungu, she immediately replied there’s no way she’s buying me THREE of those expensive Schwalbes.

After all the love, support, and encouragement she provides, I can’t believe you ditched the Ace Support Crew just for a bike ride. That’s just plain mean. That’s lower than low. The Ace Support Crew deserves better. So does The Feeshko, because I do that kind of thing to her all the time.

That was a cool ride. I need to figure out some way to decorate my bike to make it look more festive.

You know, Greg, I was feeling really bad about sending my ace support crew to that holiday party all by herself while I was out gallivanting around on a twinkling Ogre, but then I realized maybe she ran into The Feeshko, also solo, and while guzzling eggnog they had a lot of stuff to discuss with each other.

PS: You want festive? No problem. I think the AA batteries cost more than two strings of lights at Walgreens. The day after Christmas they’ll probably be giving the lights away. Just make sure they’re rated down to twenty degrees below zero for use in your neck of the woods.

I’ll be doing a 4 week cycle in April away from my Support crew or bike widow, I’ll have to be extra nice until then and get some brownie points plus some bribery (extra craft supplies) will help.

Then it occurred to me, they might actually enjoy themselves when we’re absent

What fun! Sunset is so late at this time of year that a Christmas light parade would need to start pretty late! I’d be in bed on a weekday before it even started.
