Like like?

A couple of photos in recent posts prompted me to activate a plugin for a ‘Like’ button on posts.  I considered a heart, or a thumbs up icon, but settled for a simple box/counter because I’m pretty square; and because it was free, and I’m pretty cheap; and because it didn’t take much thought, and I’m pretty thoughtless.

Like?  Would a different approach be better?

I really wish we could do this or allow comments for photos also, but I haven’t come across anything that supports that in the WordPress framework. Is anyone aware of a way to do this?

This is just a placeholder for now. I’ll add a real description when I get more time.

Suzanne, would you read Bill’s comment on this? Do you have the same issue he has? Thanks.

Hi, Yes – tried to ‘like’ yesterday and it all happened as Bill says.

BTW: can we have a category of Australia – sub-category Tasmania? I can’t add it. Thanks

Oh – Australia? I keep forgetting about you underlings. Sorry, done.

Aha – just tried again. This time I received a tick in the Like box but the number remained the same. I then went to the next post and returned to the “liked” post and the counter had incremented. No throwing me out to weird places now. TC

    Hi Scott,

Is it just me? I’m logged into Cycle365. When I attempt to “like” your post, I’m asked to log in again via the pop-up. After I enter my credentials — same as I used to log into Cycle365 — I’m told my email address is not on file.

That’s very strange. Maybe there is a privileges aspect to it. We’ll have to experiment around with it. Thanks for the report.

I think I figured it out. Silly me. That “Like” plug-in apparently requires the “liker” to have a Facebook account. (Clicking the “Forgot Account?” link in the pop-up leads to a Facebook help page, not cycle365 or WordPress.) I have no Facebook account, so I can’t successfully click the icon to show how much I would have liked the “Like Like” if I had been able to like it.

Well, that’s really stupid. I didn’t see anything about Facebook being a required tie-in. I hate Facebook personally, and just have an account for signin conveniences like this. I’ll keep shopping around for a cleaner option.
