Monterey Cypress…….

Wind!! Can we say wind!! It’s been so windy that this years Great Pacific Race has been delayed twice. If not the poor crews might be stuck in Monterey Bay for weeks. You might recall this is a rowing race from Monterey to Hawaii that’s held every other year.

There are only seven teams this year.

These ladies that are part of a three woman team were trying to get turned around in the marina the other day.

Not much room for three! The new take off time is tomorrow between 4pm and 6pm. I sure hope the wind calms down from what it is right now. This race is about 2300 mi and takes anywhere from a month to three months. I personally can’t imagine being on a boat like that for that amount of time. I seriously think these folks are stranger than us Cycle Tourists.

We did see a fun group of future racers on the water today. Summer “Toro” sail camp started today. It is so fun to watch them gain their skills. They are pulled out of the marina by their instructors.

Jack gets photo credit for this one.

Ok….this is a bike journal. Enough of the water sports. After meeting up with Jack I headed on out alone. Wasn’t sure if I was going to ride or just turn and go home as I’m really tired of going into the wind. But I stuck it out and ended up making it to Lovers Point. I love all the Monterey Cypress trees in that park and decided that one might be worthy for todays ride. If you look close you can spot Little Bessie. I had to get way out to get the entire tree which I think was at least 100ft tall. They can live to be 300-400 yrs old.

Little Bessie is there…
Another view of the same tree.

On the way home I passed one of my favorite murals. The Cannery Row boys from the novel.

When coming or going home we always pass through this wonderful eucalyptus forest. It is either a cooling place or a place to get through fast because it’s cold. It is it’s own micro climate.

Just for you And the boys Em.

Oh yea…..this happened today. We heard sirens for an hour this morning. Seems a car went out of control at Starbucks jumped the curb and ran up Into McDonalds hit right where the gas line was and burnt it to the ground! 😲

Driver air lifted out all employees safe….except they lost their jobs.

Well that’s all folks……

Janet here of Jack and Janet in Seaside, CA. We just love to ride our bikes and share and read stories from other such afflicted souls.

Very nice, Janet. Can we rely on you to get down to Pebble Beach and figure out how to get Little Bessie in the frame with the lone cypress?

Beautiful trees! Thank you from the crew and me for the shot of the tree-lined path. We’d feel right at home 🙂

Don’t know why you’d want to row from Carmel to Hawaii, but whatever floats your boat I say. We have a tree that’s out by itself on a peninsula too, nice photos
