No Katy ride — bricks galore in STL!!

Thanks everyone for your condolences about my Katy Trail tour being canceled. The most annoying part for me was that I had called the week before to ask these very questions. My family had been sending me warnings of storms, tornadoes and flooding, including some flooding on the Katy. The ride coordinator that I talked to (at length) said they DO NOT cancel tours. So, I took the chance and felt she knew what she was talking about.

Two days before the tour (when I was already in STL) I got the call. I had a friend scheduled to ride the trail on June 17th and that was canceled as well.

I did enjoye my (second) visit and time with family in STL, and if nothing else, I will remember the BRICK! Just about every building there is brick and at a time it was considered somewhat the “brick capital of the … south maybe?” They manufactured brick and sent it out to all the southern states (and others maybe). With my conscience raised about bricks, and Tony’s educational post, my head was spinning from side to side.

I was not on my bike so did not take photos to post for the challenge, but there was one building I HAD to photograph.

From what I gleaned, brick was best to withstand tornadoes.

Sorry to miss the Katy Tour, but I always say that things happen for a reason, or another way is ‘everything is as it should be’.

Thanks Suzanne. At least I got to visit with some family, and did not need to do battle with Road Scholar to pay for my early flight home.

That is some great brick work! Do you know what building it is?
Thanks for the photo, and at least you got to enjoy StL with family.

So glad you like the photos of the building Rich. It is an apartment building and is being totally renovated inside. It is a vary interesting looking building — and beautiful.

Thanks Janet. Trip cancelation was a disappointment but all went ok.

I too like this interesting Art Deco style building.

Shame about the tour, though not sure what KATY stands for, excuse my ignorance.

I’m so sorry…know you’d looked forward to the ride. I hope they refunded all your money, but you’re still out of travel expenses. Would have been worse if you hadn’t had family in the area and I’m sure they were glad you had more time with them. I have never done the KATY although St. Charles is only six or seven hours from my home.

They say a great photographer takes shots from every angle they can and you’ve certainly met that criteria.

Thank you Laura. That building called for many angles of photos!

Yes I was rather disappointed about the tour canceling, but the visit was good. Had it not been for registering for the tour, i would not have had the visit, so that is the silver lining of it all. And, though I have not seen it yet, RS says they will refund the tour cost and the early flight I had to take to home. If that ends up being the case, I will be very satisfied.

Nice to see you back here and I hope you and Violet will be getting our for some exploring.
