On the Road at Last

Hi, Everybody! After postponing our trip for a whole week due to terrible weather in the forecast, which meant canceling all our hotel bookings and re-booking, we knew we would leave on the newly planned day, rain or shine. Well it rained, the weather was acually worse than on the original planned date of departure. Yesterday was our fifth day on the road, and the first day was the only time we had to ride in the rain. Thankfully we are not in the area that has been hit so severely by flooding, by the way.

Eventually I’ll write a journal, this is just to say hello. I’m really sorry not to write the journal in real time, but I’m not up to spending most of the evening writing on a shared laptop. I wanted to let you know that I’m enjoying everyone’s posts although I’m not getting around to commenting much.

The big news is that Janos and I did our birthday ride yesterday, 81 km for me and two more for Janos, an 83 km day. Patting myself (and Janos) on back.

I'm a US born ex-pat, having lived most of my adult life in Munich, Germany. Cycling and photography are my favorite things.

I’m glad you checked in. I’ve been wondering about you two ever since the horrible flooding. Great to hear you’re both well and that the rains are working out of the system before we arrive. And congratulations to both of you on your big rides!!

    Happy Birthdays!
Good you got your tour in, and looking forward to the journal.
Ride your age is a neat idea — I may try that — do tenths of miles count? 🙂

Happy birthday to both of you, and well done on cycling your age. Have a great tour, and we’ll all wait patiently for your write-up. I think we all understand how much work it is to tour and document at the same time.

Wishing you great weather from now on. Guess I missed where you are going. I’ll check back through the posts when I get a chance. After sticking close to home for an entire season, I’m sure you are happy to be back on the road again.

Big pat on the back #4 from me. I’ll be reading your journal real-time or not. I’ve found that the only journals and blogs I really enjoy are the ones written by people who I’ve established some kind of relationship with, whether that’s here on Cycle365, Cycleblaze, or a few enlightened folks on other forums.

Yay! Way to go with riding your age! I’ll look forward to your write-up whenever it comes – I enjoy your easy-on-the-eye scenery that always looks so humane and hospitable. Some landscapes you have to learn to love but some just look park-like and “easy”. HOpe the weather remains fine for the duration!
