I’m driving solo across the continent, with the Ogre in the back of the Forester. Some days I’ll hop on the Ogre to ride a few miles out-and-back or in a loop. That will slow my forward progress, but enables me to explore some interesting places along the way.

First stop, Reno.

Today did not go exactly as planned. Disaster barely averted.

They call me Old Grumble-Face. I have no idea why they do that....

Have a great trip Bill. I am looking forward to seeing where you cycle. It was good to get the bad luck over with first and pleasing to know there are good people out there.

A road trip with lots of short cycles, looks like a loads of fun and variety

Great idea — drive far and ride whenever you choose! I just returned home from some time in NC and in MO. Both states had LIme bikes. Didn’t see many riding them.
I look forward to your reports along the route across country.

Bad luck, having two pump failures at once. I always worry about that myself. Sounds like someone is watching out for you though!

I should clarify about the double pump failures. The first one, my Mtn Morph, might have been partly user error. Maybe. The spare pump, which I haven’t used in eons, was out of action because somewhere along the line the pump head came unscrewed and apparently set off upon a journey of its own, never to be seen again. In any event, it was nowhere to be found in my trunk bag.

Today was a “driving only” day, so I stopped at a bike shop to get gear so I can be back in pedaling action tomorrow. I hope.

A good start! Glad all went well, and it made for a good story, too.

Sounds like a great way to do an interesting trip.
    Nice tour of Reno.
Will you be making a stop in Illinois?
A used Raleigh I bought came with a CO2 inflation kit in the seat bag — never have tried it out — I understand CO2 will get you home but doesnt keep the tire inflated for long periods of time.
Have a great time traveling east!

Rich, among other gear, I picked up a CO2 unit and cartridges for backup today. We’ll see how that goes.

Won’t be going through McLean County on the way east. Farther north and closer to Mr. Garceau. Westbound leg remains completely undecided at this point. My ace support crew might be lobbying for direct route with no stops to exercise the Ogre.

Sound like an appropriate start to an adventure! I’m with “Ace Support Crew” our last few car adventures have given us cause to rethink this fall. We shall see!
