RIDE #111: 23 JULY 2018

The Kuala Lumpur minibus service was introduced in 1975.  The buses had a capacity of between twenty and thirty passengers.  The per-ride fare when the service was introduced was 40 sen (10 US cents).  In 1991 the fare went up to 50 sen (12 US cents).  When the service was terminated in 1998, the fare had increased again to 60 sen (15 US cents).

What does lotus seed drink taste like? Is it always iced? I’m not sure if I’ve heard of it before.

The seed itself is slightly sweet with a taste between pine nuts and green almonds. The drink just tastes sweet from the rock sugar that is part of the recipe. The drink is served iced.

There is also a sweet lotus seed soup, which is served hot.

Lotus seeds are a popular ingredient in Chinese cooking, especially as lotus seed paste in desserts.
