The Rapha Festive 500 challenge kicked off today. Ride 500 kilometres between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
I had a pre-dawn start under a bright gibbous moon. I rode a meandering route south-west to the coast, following the Langat River where possible.
The Langat River this close to the sea is tidal. The morning tide was still very high following the full moon on the 23rd and the river was right up on the edge of the road in places.
The moon was still visible when I got to the fishing village of Kampung Kelanang near the mouth of the river.
Kampung Kelanang presented an opportunity for a wall photograph. Beneath the bridge I was standing on to take the photograph above is a sluice gate. There is a little building which houses the controls for the sluice gate. A building with a fancy openwork wall.
Down toward the southernmost point of my ride at Morib is a narrow road which runs right along the beach. The northern section of the road has already been washed away. This bit will be the next to go very soon.
I had another early ride this Christmas morning (it helps not to have children at home anymore) and am on track to complete this year’s Festive 500. There are 40,555 people registered for this challenge. 18 of them have already completed the challenge. 12 of them rode 500 kilometres or more in one go!
To you and yours . . . .
