Ride North

Short stop at what I am told is a World War 1 Era tank — at the Veterans Memorial Floral Hill Cemetery.

Addendum: That’s a World War II M3 “Stuart” light tank — Thanks to Bill for the ID!

Glacial moraine crests opposite the cemetery.   Cold/Wet spring has delayed planting until now.

Descending the moraine on the way back to town.

Very much enjoy all the entries you all have provided -- great to see the everyday cycling venues. Being in eastern Illinois, scenery certainly isn't our forte, but oh well, the roads are normally quiet. Look forward to more and more entries from all of you, I do have a few over on BL -- in Bill's Day Rides, and one journal.

Thanks for the ID on the tank!

Lots of black soil around here, McClean county is especially endowed with it due to wind blown glacial silt (loess) from the Illinois River valley, and thousands of years of prairie grass vegetation adding organic matter.

Ah, beautiful moraines and thick, loam soils. Nice ride. I once used an army tank as a windbreak to camp behind in Iowa on a very cold day… it was not that kind of tank though.
