Road Trip…..Day One and Two

I was going to try and do this trip all in one rightup but it’s already getting way out of hand and I haven’t even started.

We left Monday the 13th from Seaside and headed to St George, UT. We made it in just about 11 hours…..seems we stop often to “stretch”.

This was one of our stretching stops…Boron, CA. Hungry…..tuff!!

Tuesday we wanted a “no car” day so we decided to ride around St George and see what we could find.

We found this great 5.5 mi trail just across the street from our motel. It was very busy and if you did the loop a few times you would have a great ride.

After our warm up on the bike path we decided to head “up” to Snow Canyon and back. This is still part of the previous trail.

We could see all the way across town to the temple.

We found “Surly Girls” big brother at a bike shop we stopped in to get directions.

We had to ride through town for about five miles before we could connect with another bike path to take us to Snow Canyon. Little did we realize UP was going to be the operative….we went up at a constant 3-4% grade for the next 12 miles and it was getting HOT above 90 and we are at 3,400 ft of elevation!!

There was one down hill….but guess what it was on the way back! This was 8%😳😳

Interesting round about.

We finally made it to the park…..I’m getting a little dizzy!

Seems I should have trained for the heat and altitude! I was a little dehydrated but after two bottles of water and a banana I was fine.

We made it back to the motel…Hyatt Place. We really enjoyed this place. I had stayed at one in Santa Rosa last year with my tasting room team (wine tasting in Napa for work!).  It has bricks. But first we need to get across a busy street.

That’s the end of day one and two…..see you soon.

Janet here of Jack and Janet in Seaside, CA. We just love to ride our bikes and share and read stories from other such afflicted souls.

I’d read about riding to Snow Canyon on someone else’s ride on that other site. Seemed like a really nice ride. Getting out there at some altitude in the heat yet.

I mis-read the 5.5ml as 55ml – several loops I though jeez they must be fit.

That looks like a nice ride up to Snow Canyon – good scenery but maybe getting a bit warm!
