Rocky returns

After taking two days off the saddle to keep pressure off her injured elbow, Rocky was ready to roll. We drove out to Sauvie Island to join the masses, surprised to find that we didn’t have the whole island to ourselves. I’ve never seen so many hikers and bikers out there, as everyone is looking for a chance to get outdoors on such a fine day while keeping a safe distance from each other.
We’re happy to report that after her 45 mile ride Rocky felt perfectly fine and ready for more. And, since it’s her birthday this week, she gets to pick the music today.

So, two days off after getting hit by a semi truck? She must be getting soft.
It seems so. It’s probably from hanging around me for so long. I’m teaching her bad habits.
Glad she’s back on the bike and hopefully less trauma than the gravel experience. Nigel, truck driver of 35 years, once told me this: “Yes, the whole ‘if you can’t see my mirrors, I can’t see you’ is true, but there are also bits of the mirror that are hard to see depending on driver position, so even if you can see the mirror, you could still be in a blind spot. Assume anywhere within six or so feet of the truck is a blind spot and that the driver is not going to be taking actions with you in mind if you are that close.” When I rode with him in various trucks, I could see what he meant – though he has an amazing awareness of what is going on, even with all the blind spots.
Perfect choice of music! I knew you must have chosen it, Rachel! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
