Roses are Red

Roses are Red

Viking fans are feeling blue

We went Waa-hoo

Whilst they went Boo-hoo

At the casino after my early ride. The game started at 9am on Christmas eve. I met a friendly father and son from Kentucky. The son a Viking fan and father a Packers fan. I learnt many things such as a Sack, scrimmage line and that everyone hates the New England Team more than the Packers. Still got about 1000 more rules to learn.

Before the game I went for an early cycle around the city and had a great chat to some ladies in the Over 55 cycling club I met in the queue and shared a table with at my favourite Bayside Café at Crawley. Along the way I took some photos with a red theme.

Red tram to nowhere

Different interpretation of a ‘White Christmas’ a ‘Red Christmas’ is an option.

Some red canoes viewed from the cafe

Firefighters memorial at Kings Park, boy do we need these guys.

I live in the hills just east of the city of Perth, Western Australia and I've loved cycling all my life, From riding to primary school when I was 8 years old to cycle touring as a grumpy old man. Cycling is freedom on two wheels and I love getting on my bike at any opportunity.

Nice new interpretation of a white Christmas!
Early rides are the best, aren’t they. But I like night rides, too.

It’s either early or late rides for me at the moment to avoid the heat and UV rays. Thinking of doing a night ride tonight and check out the city Christmas lights,

That place looks great, it’s on my bucket list.

$8 pints at the casino? You’d think they would be making enough money off the pokies to offer cheaper beer! Glad you had some other fans to watch the game with that early. Too many people are having a white Christmas – ash all over the ground. You’ve been sending us a heap of hot weather from over that way – could you please send us some rain!?

Sorry Emily, we have no rain to send you but there is a cyclone up north so anything is possible. Maybe the weathers returning to normal now. $8 for a pint of beer is quite reasonable around here.

White Christmas in a sine bottle is the only way some of us will have one at all this year ;’-). I love early rides, but will take a ride anytime I can get one.

The only white Christmas we’ll get is on the beach sand here. I think where you live is the ideal, you can drive to see the snow in the mountains then go home. Folks like Gregory are just stuck with it.

Well, after a couple days of shame and disappointment in my football team, I’ve emerged from my mini-depression. Now, I can congratulate your Packers on their victory. I just wish my team had at least put on a little better performance, considering you made the effort to hop on your bike so early in the morning and ride all the way to the casino to watch the contest.

It was really cool that you just happened to run into those Kentuckians. Not only could they help you with the weird rules of American football, but It had to be fun watching them bicker throughout the game as all Viking fans and Packer fans do when they’re trapped in the same venue. I know, because my brother is a Packer Backer. If you ever thought politics and religion are contentious topics around the Christmas dinner table, try eating with a bunch of Vikings and Packers fans.

Cheer up, you’ll beat the Packers….eventually. I really can’t take too much credit for their victory and I do have you to thank for recommending them as my NFL team. I must be the only Packers, Twins supporter in existence, maybe I would feel at home on an island in the middle of the Mississippi. There was about 10 other people watching the game behind the photo and it was 9am in the morning so quiet at the casino. Also lots of people have Fox TV Sports so they could watch it at home. The local hotel didn’t open until half way through the game. I enjoyed the experience.

By the way, that’s a great picture of you in front of the big screen just as a former Vikings player is performing the pre-game, Viking-horn blowing ritual. Also, I see there wasn’t much of a turnout for a big game between a couple of rival teams from the middle of the U.S. What’s up with that?

That horn must have come from a humongous bull.
