“Silence is violence”

We’ve had two nights of “I can’t breathe” protests and some property destruction downtown. Nevertheless, I was surprised today to discover, as I was riding my usual route westbound on Sonoma Avenue, the street ahead was being blocked by a mass of protesters coming in my direction.

    There is a really good article in the New Yorker that references a lot of things you’ll have experienced. It begins with the quote by MLK, “Riots are the language of the unheard.” It ends with MLK quoting Victor Hugo: “If a soul is left in the darkness, sins will be committed. The guilty one is not he who commits the sin, but he who causes the darkness.”
