Smoke gets in my tea

For the past six days, the air quality index in Santa Rosa has fluctuated between “unhealthy” and “very unhealthy.” Today the AQI improved to “unhealthy for sensitive groups.” As an insensitive old grumbly guy, I figured I would be safe for a quick ride over to Spring Lake in order to partake of a thermos of tea and a granola bar as part of my Coffeeneuring obligations. I didn’t keel over due to inhalation of particulates, but by the time I returned home the AQI was deteriorating again. In any event, according to my calculations this represented my seventh and concluding caffeine excursion for the season.

Walked into the garage to mount the Ogre and discovered flat tire. The LHT was happy to roll. So was the Sirrus, but it was upstairs on the trainer. My ace support crew sometimes wonders why the backup needs backup. 😉

Glad you survived it. Hope you don’t have any future effects. The devil in me must ask how you posted this tomorrow Nov 15th and I’m seeing it Nov 14th? You haven’t slipped over to see our Aussie and Kiwi friends, have you? Must admit nothing matches as far as day and time in my life right now.

Scott and Rachael have (intentionally or otherwise) set the web server software so that it uses GMT (also known as Coordinated Universal Time, UCT, UT1, Zulu time, London time, etc). For anyone who lives outside that time zone (darn near all of us), that means the times (and sometimes dates) shown for postings here don’t match the locations where we live.

Well, darn, I thought I was seeing into the future! Shows how observant I’ve not been. 🙂 I do hope the smoke clears out of there soon. I see my replies are also dated the 15th.

Well done, Bill, getting in all of your Coffeeneuring rides! Sending good thoughts your insensitive and grumbly way knowing that all this smoke and the horror up in Paradise will be triggering lots of memories for you right now. Take care!

Like Laura, I wondered about the date posted as well. Well, yet another unobservant reader.

So sorry about all the fires and your air quality. As you know from my previous posts, we have family who recently moved to the Sacramento area and they are having air quality warnings as well. Kids are told to not walk or bike to school, and parents are to pick them up. Stay safe and don’t overdo the outdoor activities! But, nice #7 for the challenge.

Nancy, while keeping an eye on AQIs around the state (thinking about escaping for a few days to somewhere with cleaner air), I’ve noticed that Elk Grove has consistently had some of the worst readings outside the immediate fire zone. Did schools remain open there? Public schools here closed for a few days. Fortunately, this morning, for the first time in a week, the AQI in Santa Rosa has finally improved to the “moderate” zone, at least for awhile. But I see Elk Grove remains well into the “very unhealthy” zone.

Bill, the schools that I know of had been open until today. They closed for the day and I don’t know how long they will be closed. From what I understand, there were parents who complained that the schools should NOT be open while the AQI was so bad. I don’t know if that is finally what caused school closure.

Glad to see you are again riding the LHT, but am very sorry that your air quality is so bad now. You could get smoked tea, lapsang souchong, without all those fires.
