Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

Fortunately, we have no fires in Sonoma County right now, but the sky is a murky gray because the rest of California is burning, and all the smoke seems to be blowing over us.

Despite less than pristine air quality today, I had to get out on the Ogre after entertaining visitors, which kept me out of the saddle for about a week. The Challenge of the Month for August involves liquid. I calculated that it should be possible to find ample liquid in Santa Rosa Creek along the Greenway trail. That, I figured, would be an easy ride through a little smoke with enough liquid to fulfill my Challenge obligations.

What I actually encountered was far less liquid than anticipated and far more smoke than expected.

    The smoke is unbelievable!
Several photos of the Northern California fires:

Looks like the grapes are progressing well –are entire vineyards netted?
The corn has pretty much done its thing at this stage, but it is looking good.
Good you are back on the Ogre — hope Sonoma County stays fire-free!

Oh my, that must be a very uneasy time when so much of California is burning. Good luck for Sonoma and hopefully some rain asap.

Beautiful pics, Bill. I’ve got an asthmatic friend in Portland really suffering from the smoke. Her co-pay for her preventive inhaler is $180 a month! Her reliever inhaler co-pay is $100 a month. I really feel for all of the very vulnerable people who don’t have access to that and can’t afford to breathe at the moment and just have to suffer. Stay safe!

Beautiful photos……I love the gold tones the smoke is giving us. We have had some of that down here too. However – I would rather not have it! The cost is too high!! Let’s hope for lots of rain and early I don’t think we can do a second fire season in October!!!
