Smoke on the Shoreline with Jeff

Jeff finally received clearance to ride his bicycles while recovering from rotator cuff surgery. It didn’t take long before we made plans.

With the Santa Rosa forecast calling for highs in the 90s and more smoke from fires to the north of us, we decided to head down to Marin County where we expected cooler temperatures and clearer skies. In fact, it was 65° when we started riding in Mill Valley and 85° when we returned, and we could see the air becoming more and more smoky as the day wore on, with Mt Tamalpais gradually fading away as the smoke level worked its way down the mountain slopes. Tiny particulates in the air didn’t do much for photographs or lungs. Driving back to Santa Rosa, we hit 97° and the worst smoke yet.

But before that, we had a leisurely ride—more horsing around than pedaling—to Sausalito, Fort Baker under the Golden Gate Bridge, back to Sausalito, Tiburon, and finally back to the Forester in Mill Valley.

Nice ride despite the smoke — good to see Jeff back on the saddle again. (sans ice, hopefully 😉 )

When we lived in Alameda that was one of our favorite rides….we would ride to the ferry at Jack London Sq Oakland ferry to SF ride to Tiburon ferry back to SF then Oakland. It’s a great way to ride and enjoy an little time out on the Bay. It’s actually a better ferry ride than taking one of those expensive Blue Tours!! Like you we like to keep our local secrets….I’m trying to think if we know your bridge!

Nice that you have your biking buddy back, also that he has successfully recovered from surgery.
