Summer Solstice in Bavaria – a few days early

This is about a ten-minute ride from home. Had to think about where I would best view the sun sinking below the horizon. We have lots of forests here but not many views to where the sky and earth meet, too many trees. Since sunrise was at 5:14 am and sunset at 9:17 pm, I didn’t want to ride too far, especially for the sunrise. But I didn’t feel like pedaling too far at 9 pm either. In addition to these obstacles, clouds and rain were predicted for June 21. So many compromises were called for. I took my picture of the setting sun on May 19, it is about 15 minutes before sunset and trees are obscuring the horizon. But I did my best.

I'm a US born ex-pat, having lived most of my adult life in Munich, Germany. I have three kids and eight grandchildren - so I'm pretty old. Cycling, photography and walking are my favorite things.

I’d say your best is pretty spectacular!!! Beautiful……sadly fog doesn’t make for great sunset/sunrise photos.

    Great photo!
We would need a micrometer to tell the difference between May 19 and the 21st as far as the sunset goes, so noooooo problem there at all!
As Janet said your best is pretty spectacular! Thanks for participating.

Those rays from the sun are amazing. Probably even more amazing than the sun reflecting off railroad tracks in one of your pictures last year.

I know I’ve never captured sun rays like that in a photo, but when I was a kid I did a pretty good job of using a yellow crayon to draw a bright sun with numerous rays extending out from it.

Great colours in this picture. I am always amazed at the differences in the sunsets when a bit of cloud is about.
