The Quest for the Lone Cypress

A request was made by “Old Grumble Face” for a picture of the “Lone Cypress”. For those of you unfamiliar this is the famous cypress that resides on 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach. Now, if we find it and take a photo of it we can only share it and appreciate it ourselves, as it has a “copyright” and NO One is allowed to sell or use a photo of the tree for their personal gain. Just a little trivia for you.

It looked to be a beautiful day and for some reason we were heading out hours before we normally do. This too is a good thing as we were able to avoid some of the heavy winds in the afternoon. BTW the Great Pacific Race finally started on Wednesday. We didn’t see it but we hear it did happen.

We’re heading up through the Forest as its called… someone following us? Or does Janet have new camera skills?

Well look  – yes there is someone following us!! She seems to think she knows us from a group that roamed San Francisco about a year ago.

I’m not so sure. She does ride a very strange looking bicycle…but hey we’ll let her tag along…seems nice enough and her bike has a name – Pokey. She too is on a quest to find the Lone Cypress – must be some tree.

Here she is coming up the big climb of the day. Top of Spyglass Hill.

We find the Lone Cypress. Are you impressed? Please do not attempt to sell this fine photo – I don’t know any lawyers!!

The Goddess herself folks!!!

This was as close as I could get the bikes Bill. Better luck next time.

The fire truck seemed more interesting.

Team JJ

Jack and The Goddess.

Next up The Ghost Tree. Well at least the gals.

Time for a little apple break….seems to be the food of choice for this group.

We’re in the Crocker Grove – this and the Cypress Grove at Pt Lobos are the last two Native Stands of Monterey Cypress in the state. Well at least that is what they teach us at Docent school. And it seems they are the Largest and Oldest in Existence – I don’t know how to validate that.

Time to head back towards Monterey. The wild flowers were beautiful.

More scenes from the road. Janet just was passed by a young gal on a rental bike. That tends to make her mad – hold on she’s going to pick up the pace.

Soon we’re hitching the bikes up at Asilomar.

Because not only did we get to ride with The Goddess today – we got to have lunch and a long chat with the lovely BJ. What a fun ride and day!! Oh my, I neglected to say Happy Anniversary Kathleen and BJ!! They were celebrating 27 years together. Congratulations!!!

Hey Bill ever get a Threesome?!! LOL

This was “our normal” 30 mile ride – we met up with The Goddess at about mile 11 and back at Asilomar we were at mile 20’ish. I’m sure she will give a proper report.

That’s All Folks!!

Janet here of Jack and Janet in Seaside, CA. We just love to ride our bikes and share and read stories from other such afflicted souls.

Gorgeous pics, and wonderful pics of you, Jack and the Goddess. So glad you had a beautiful day to meet up, ride and lunch. I never knew a tree could have a copyright, sheesh!!! I’m glad you are back to your ‘normal’ ride, too 🙂 Hope your ribs have mostly healed.

Wow! That really IS a spectacular tree. The best thing is that it doesn’t block the view at all. I might add that you guys make a spectacular bike riding trio as well.

Lone Cypress and Mad Marauders! Plus reflecties! Hey, we might have an award winner here! Great job, and glad to see you and Jack are back to “normal” rides. As to the Goddess and BJ, what a welcome surprise. Thanks for sharing the photos of “Reunion Tour 2018.”

What a great ride. Janet and Jack out cycling with no rib problems and big sun hats. The Goddess in full flight, Kathleen and BJ’s anniversary and a picture of a copyright’d tree.

Looks like you guys had a great ride, J&J!

BJ and I had a lot of fun meeting up with you. Thanks for showing me the easy way around the Monterey Peninsula.
