Well Worn Routes Close to Town

Raleigh at CSX Railroad

Nice morning for a ride, so the Raleigh and I headed south for 3 miles, then west to the RR.

Short pause there, no trains in sight, (I was hoping to get the face of a CSX locomotive) so headed back toward town.

Tried a video on the way just to see what might turn out — turns out to be 2:27 seconds of YAWN.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, here is a view as I went along, lots of corn and soybeans and the occasional line of trees.

Very typical thru-out central and east central Illinois.

The milky appearance of the sky is actually smoke from the fires in the western US.

Most of the video is descending the back slope of moraine.

As if that wasn’t enough here is an additional 1:39. . . . .

And a look at Steely’s Creek AKA North Fork of the Vermilion River

It would be interesting to see where you ride

No commentary was included because:

Very much enjoy all the entries you all have provided -- great to see the everyday cycling venues. Being in eastern Illinois, scenery certainly isn't our forte, but oh well, the roads are normally quiet. Look forward to more and more entries from all of you, I do have a few over on BL -- in Bill's Day Rides, and one journal.

Thanks! I am doing that as we speak — the upload is Sloooooooooooooooooow — prolly my ISP or crummy connection speed, but we are working on it!
All the buffering is a major Grrrrrrr — and thats putting it politely!

You donโ€™t have to set up an account but it might help with some things. I never log in because I hate google but i get a lot of adverts when I watch. Dunno if there are fewer or not when logged in. Might have other controls if logged in. Not worth it for me.

Thanks for the videos. They certainly give a better of idea of the terrain and scenery than a still photo does. Looks like a lovely bucolic area to me.

BTW, I had not trouble with buffering. Must have better connectivity.

You are welcome! I uploaded the videos to Youtube and they run just fine now — easier to do than I thought it would be, but does it take some time to upload!
I agree videos show lots more than still photos — flat, green, corn, and beans can get a little tiresome.
I think you are right about the connectivity — I get what I pay for. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I did not yawn once during the first 2:27 video. And I experienced no buffering. I didn’t yawn during the other two videos either because they’re every bit as exciting as my videos through corn and soybean country. I liked hearing the songbirds every time you passed a grove of trees. I just have a small hint for you: If you want to be a major Youtube star –like me — you’re going to have to ignore President Lincoln. You must show your face and vocalize some really stupid stuff.

These are great! Brings back lots of memories of childhood in similar scenery. Reminds me a bit of my 3 rides across IL, too, but those rides were all before the corn was up. I think you need to re-create these in each season ๐Ÿ™‚

I had no buffering after you did YouTube versions. I hate Vimeo as it buffers a lot, but YouTube usually doesn’t.
