Winter Solstice Challenge – without bike and road

Just got a shot of the sun as it disappears on the horizon here in Conil, Spain on December 21 for the Solstice Challenge. In Munich I would have had my bicycle and perhaps a street at the right angle, but I doubt the sun would have been out. Only rain and clouds there!
Happy Holidays everyone!

I'm a US born ex-pat, having lived most of my adult life in Munich, Germany. I have three kids and eight grandchildren - so I'm pretty old. Cycling, photography and walking are my favorite things.

Great photo! The sky and the reflection of the sky in the wet sand is beautiful!
    Thanks!
Bicycle or not, we get to see the Solstice sunset over the Atlantic. 🙂

The sunset photo reminded me, and I just looked it up — that looks like a good place to observe the “Green Flash” sometimes (rarely) seen just as the sun goes below the horizon.
I wasnt sure if this is a tropical phenomenon or can occur at any latitude, turns out, it may be seen anywhere at sunset or sunrise.
Might be something to keep an eye out for — so to speak 😉

I’ve heard of the green flash but have never seen it. We have a view of the setting sun here in Conil, so I am keeping an eye out for it. That would be a great experience.

Hi Rich – big news! Today we saw the green flash!!!! For the first time in my life. It was so short, really just a quick flash, it would be easy to miss. But three of us were watching closely, and just as the sun slipped below the horizon we all saw it. Wow!

beautiful, of course. But couldn’t you have borrowed or rented a bike to roll down to the shoreline?
