A clump of cacti / a heap of hedgehogs

I thought I was done with this month’s collection challenge, but this cute little clump of hedgehog cacti was just too adorable to not share. Sorry, no bicycles, but they’re not allowed on the trails of Saguaro National Park. And besides, it seemed like this site was getting overburdened by a blizzard of snow posts and needed a bit more heat and light.

Welcome heat and light! And great shot of the hedgehogs.
You don’t see that many hedgehogs here, but th3y sure are cute. It’s a real temptation to give them a friendly pat on the head.
Any photo taken somewhere that’s sunny, warm and dry seems pretty nice right now. Hope you and Rocky have a great Christmas day.
Thanks, BobinVT! We did have a good Xmas day, but sadly not a white one – just more sun and desert. It reminds me though of the amazing Xmas Eve taking the ferry back to Melbourne from Tasmania fifteen years ago. They were experiencing one of their seasons of drought and horrendous fires. Astonishingly, like an Xmas miracle, there was snow in the mountains that gave the firefighters a desperately needed reprieve.
Your excellent pictures certainly reminded me why the saguaro is my favorite “tree.” I’d love to be able to grow one in my front yard. It would look awesome in the white landscape of winter.
They are an amazing species, alright. I don’t think they’d care much for the winters in Minnesota though. The Friends of the Earth would be after you with charges of cacticide.
Love Saguaro National Park. Biking the circular route in the east section was great fun. We were there in August and being hot isn’t in my memories, but the next day when we were driving in the west section it poured with water running over the road to the park. Looks like a great place to go to get away from cold.
You’ve been here? Saguaro East is a wonderful short ride, alright. We’ll make it back out there with the bikes sometime in the next few days. We’ll be in Tucson until early February, and I’m hoping by then we’ll see some of the cactus blooming out.
